I am a middle of the road crossfitter at best.  My biggest weakness is my strength (like literally, I’m weak) while my biggest strength are a few skills, with double unders being my best movement. So when Castro’s first word was strength, my heart dropped.  I was in real trouble. In face you can see my reaction in this video.

But then he added toes to bar and double unders in.  Phew.  I knew I could make it through one round and in fact after the reading of the workout, I thought I had 2 rounds in me and would get to the 225 bar.

Here is the workout:

0-4 minute
25 ttb
50 DU’s
15 135 squat cleans (can be power clean into front squat)

If you complete all of that before 4 minutes is up then:

4-8 minute
25 ttb
50 DU’s
13 185 squat cleans

8-12 minute
25 ttb
50 DU’s
11 225 squat cleans

Then kept getting heavier but none of that mattered to me. It was all about getting to the third round.  But then I woke up, or more accurately, Beyond the whiteboard did an analysis and showed that touching the bar at 185 was 50th percentile.  And I’m realistic about where I stand so I knew that touching that bar or getting 1 was a reasonable goal.

Saturday came around and it was time to go. Seeing that I am not great at stringing together TTB I went in with a strategy of doing 5 TTB at a time til I got to 25. 3….2….1…GO!  I start, get to 5 and thought what the hell keep going.  Then through 10…finally I get to 15 unbroken fairly quickly.  Do 2 sets of 5 and I’m on the double unders.  As I said previously, this is a strength so I did all 50 unbroken. I’m through it all at about 1:40, leaving me 2:20 for 15 135 squat cleans.  I take my good old time putting on a weight belt and dont start the cleans until almost 230.  I get through them with about 8 seconds to spare.

On to the second set of TTB, I get through 5 unbroken then I have to go to singles.  Well kinda singles, they are not strung together but I stay on the bar and do 5’s at a time.  Get to DU’s and split them into 2 sets of 25 because my forarms were on fire!   But I finish both at about 645, leaving me 1:15 to try and get a few 185 cleans.

Attempt 1: oh man how did this weight get so heavy!  My squat clean form just isn’t there…ABORT ABORT!  I dropped the bar.

Attempt 2: ok new strategy,  power clean this up and hten worry about the clean.  SUCCESS!   with 7 second left I get 1 rep at 185!  You can watch my entire first try here:

I did retry this workout and similar results except that with the extra knowledge of doing power cleans I  made sure to get 2 185 reps.  Final score 167!

I am proud to have fought through this and realized I need to work on my fatigued weightlifting!
