Like most millennials, exploring our planet is something that Karen (Digital Mustard) and I enjoy together. Most of our travels so far as a couple has been to warm destinations; our honeymoon was in Tahiti and we have spent time on cruise ships and all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. Not this year, no this year I surprised her with a trip to ICELAND….in February.

Before you go and call me insane because no way any woman would want a trip to somewhere frigid as a Christmas gift, know that Karen is just not any woman. She is an amazing woman and was ecstatic about the opportunity to visit Iceland at any point. Part of the reason is because we will get to CrossFit in another country and another is because there is the off chance that we could get to meet Annie Thorisdottir (2-time World’s Fittest Woman) and Katrin Davidsdottir (current Reebok CrossFit World’s Fittest Woman) who both work out at CrossFit Reykjavic. Below is a video of them “working out” together.

With this possible opportunity to meet these incredibly fit and beautiful women I just had to come up with something to do if I had the chance to meet them.  I came up with the bright ridiculous idea to challenge them to a workout. One that I MIGHT, just maybe, if they are having an off day and the moon is in the right phase, I could beat them at.

But what workout would be even close? Most anything with a barbell is out cause they both have 1RM at or higher than mine and anything for reps they would just blow me out of the water. I could probably beat them in golf, but that is not CrossFit related (actually, can Castro make that a workout at The Games this year, I’d love to see some of those guys and gals swing a golf club?). Most of the traditional CrossFit movements are out…with the exception of one.  Double Unders.

For those not familiar with the movement, it is really just jump rope but the rope passes under your feet twice for every jump. I am not a professional jump roper, I am likely just above the average Rx crossfitter. But if there is just one thing I have at least a small chance at beating two of the fittest people in the world in, this is it.

THE CHALLENGE

So if by some very off chance that Annie or Katrin read this. I will be in Iceland from February 11th through the afternoon on February 14th and challenge you to one of the 3 workouts below.

  1. 150 DU’s for time
  2. 2 minutes to do a 25 cal row, followed by max DU’s in remaining time
  3. 5 minute AMRAP
    3 – 135 lb (61 kg) C+J; 50 DU’s

I keep them short for 2 reasons, first being that this is right before the open and I know they have specified workouts they need to hit and the second, more important, reason is because it lessens the chances of me being completely and totally decimated by them in the workout.

If, by some miracle, one or both accept this we can make it interesting. If I win, then they sign a shirt for me and my wife to hang up in our home.  If When they win, I will make a $50 donation to the charity of their choice. No big stakes or anything, just something fun.

In any case, Karen and I are beyond thrilled to be visiting the beautiful country of Iceland and can not wait to be immersed in the culture and natural phenomenon of the small nation!  Please if you read this feel free to contact me!
