DSC_0304Aurora Borealis or “the northern lights” is something I have always wanted to see. The pictures always looked so amazing.  This was my chance to see them, the forecast was for clear skies! now I just needed the sun to cooperate…unfortunately it did not (sad face), but it was still an absolutely breathtaking night taking a bath in the warm natural spring waters and then a crystal clear night under the stars with my wife. We made some new friends on this part of the trip too, a great couple from Seattle was really nice to talk to and intereact with, we ended up taking a shuttle back tot he airport on sunday with them too and had some really great conversations! Really I am happy with all of that.  My camera captured some cool images but it was better on the camera than in person.

The next day was glacier walk and ice wall climbing time!  This was the best part of the entire trip. Seeing the icelandic landscape and then taking a stroll on a glacier was just a highlight of my life. I will not soon forget the images that are now burned into my memory.  Pictures do not do the beauty justice.  Also, ice climbing is hard when you dont have the proper shoes.  Shoes are really important when you have crampons on.  But I am really happy that Karen and I took this trip.  Bonus was the nap on the 2 hour plus ride back to Reykjavik to prepare us for our next and final adventure in Iceland.  PUB CRAWL!

This waDSCN1695s one of the more fun pub crawls I’ve ever done.  Karen and I met up with an awesome person we met on the plane and went pub to pub trying all kinds of new beers and having an all around great time.  Lots of laughs, lots of drinks and even some german guy trying to make out with Karen.  I laughed incredibly hard at his attempt, at least he tried?  Also saw a great live band which belted out some really great covers of hits.  At the end of the night, drunken hot dogs were purchased and then it was bed time (at roughly 3am).  Woke up the next day and it was back to the states where we were soon back to reality.

Sorry for the very quick overview of our trip. I’m trying to play catch up, I’m sure I’ll come back and add on to this post in hte future. Just know that Iceland is the first place I’ve visited and said “I have to go back there”.  I feel we’ve only scratched the surface of what this wonderful country holds!
